Rediscovering Iranian Art at Dubai’s Art Fair

Rediscovering Iranian Art at Dubai’s Art Fair: A Journey with Shirin Gallery

In 2016, as international sanctions on Iran were lifted, I had the unique opportunity to represent Shirin Gallery, a renowned Iranian art gallery, at Dubai’s Art Fair. This pivotal moment not only signaled a cultural reawakening for Iranian artists but also opened doors to a global audience eager to engage with their work. For me, the fair became more than an exhibition; it was a celebration of resilience, innovation, and the unbreakable spirit of Iranian artists.

The Atmosphere and Highlights of the Fair

The Dubai Art Fair was alive with an eclectic mix of artworks, from the contemporary and thought-provoking to the traditional and delicate. The anticipation in the air was palpable; it wasn’t just another art event but a gathering that brought together people from every corner of the world to witness something rare and historic. As I walked through the vibrant exhibition space, I was struck by the diversity of artistic expression and the strong presence of Iranian art.

Representing Shirin Gallery, I was especially thilled to introduce the works of Iranian artists whose pieces were layered with history, symbolism, and the complex narratives that only Iranian culture can offer. Our booth attracted collectors, curators, and art lovers who were fascinated by Iran’s intricate art scene—a scene that, until then, had been largely inaccessible to the world.

A Bridge Between East and West

One of the most memorable moments at the fair was seeing the genuine interest and curiosity about Iranian contemporary art. For many visitors, these works opened a window into a part of the world they knew little about. Art had become the bridge between cultures, an unspoken language through which we shared stories and perspectives. The energy and openness in these conversations highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and reinforced my passion for fostering such dialogues..
